Although most people associated the Vantage name with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, it has been used for other models as well. The term Vantage usually describes a high performance version of a previous model. Over the span of 50 odd years 11 cars that came out of the Aston Martin facility have bore the title Vantage and are as follows DB2 Vantage, DB4 Vantage, DB5 Vantage, DB6 Vantage, V8 Vantage, V8 Vantage Volante (a convertible), V8 Vantage Zagato, V8 Vantage Virage, DB7 V12 Vantage and the last but not least the V8 Vantage.
The only vehicle that carried the sole name Vantage was the 1972 – 1973 model, which was the successor of the popular DB series and had a straight-6 or the I6 engine. Most sport cars enthusiast associated the name with the 2005. version of the V8 as it is the most recent product that came out of the Aston Martin facility, however it was the 1977. Aston Martin V8 Vantage that blazed the path for this recent version. It was announced as the Britain’s supercar no less, the name stemming from the speed it could reach, which was 274 km/h or 170mph.
The engine was shared with Lagonda, however there were mechanical adjustments made such as the new bigger carburetors, which were mounted on new manifolds for increased output, then there were th
e larger inlet valves, increased compression ratio and high performance camshafts.
There were also Vantage models produced for the United States market and even thought they bore the name Vantage they lacked the powerful engine.The Aston Martin cars developed in the recent years became a synonym with style, sophistication and perfect craftsmanship combined with the latest advancements in technology, making the Aston Martin cars a viable competitor with other brands in the sports cars industry.
